US Congress set the standard for incoming British PM

Congressman Joe Kennedy III

This week US Congress representatives wrote to the three leaders of Britain’s largest parties expressing their ongoing support for the Good Friday Agreement and stating clearly that any incoming government should confirm the structures of the Peace Accord, meet their human rights obligations, prioritise peace and ensure that Brexit has no negative implications for trade on the island of Ireland or undermines peace in any way.

This letter comes after the extensive speaking tour and lobby undertaken by our CEO Mark Thompson with the Anicient Order of Hibernians in November. That tour included a two day lobby of US representatives and a hearing of the US Congressional Foreign Relations Committee.

Relatives for Justice wishes to express our sincere thanks to Congressmen Boyle, Neal and Kennedy for this vital and timely intervention and urges all party leaders in Britain and in Ireland to pay cognisance of its contents, whether in power or in opposition.
